Can I find out who took money using my credit card?
When someone else is using your credit card, it can cost you a lot of money. It can be very frustrating and make it hard to get credit in the future.
If you haven’t already done so:
1. Report the unauthorized use of your card to your credit card company. Ask to have the card canceled and have a new card with a new number issued in your name.
2. Contact at least one of the three credit bureaus listed below to put a “fraud alert” on your credit report. The credit bureau you contact will contact the other two credit bureaus so they’ll all have the same information. With a “fraud alert” on your credit report, the credit bureaus will contact you if anyone tries to open a new credit account in your name. The three credit bureaus are:
3. Report the unauthorized use of your credit card to your local police and get a copy of the police report. This will not only help you verify the crime to the credit bureaus, but will help the police determine if they should begin an investigation regarding your credit card.
